Program Funding
Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services has an ongoing need for funding of its vital core programs:
Emergency Shelter & 24-Hour Helpline
Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services' emergency shelter, the Christine Ann Center, provides safe and temporary housing in a welcoming and supportive environment. Located in Oshkosh, the shelter provides immediate safety to victims and their children who would otherwise be homeless and also ensures that their basic needs are met.
Through the 24-Hour Helpline, the agency supports clients with crisis advocacy as well as referrals for women, men and children. The Helpline is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can be accessed by both voice and TTY-assistive devices for the hearing impaired.
Client Advocacy Services Program
The Client Advocacy Services Program is the agency's most significant program in terms of the number of clients served, assisting victims in developing a logical path toward self-sufficiency.
The program provides clients with comprehensive support services including individual options advocacy, safety planning, support groups, legal advocacy and referral to community resources in order to meet the often complex needs of clients such as housing, financial assistance, child care, medical, mental health, parenting support, transitional living services, and employment and training programs.
Children and Teen Programs
The Children and Teen Programs work with children and teens who are victims and/or witnesses of abuse. Programs for children include individual sessions, safety planning, unstructured playgroups and structured support groups. The advocate also supports the parents with positive parenting skills and assistance in re-establishing their role as parents.
The agency's Teen Advocate works primarily with teen witnesses or victims of domestic abuse or those in abusive dating relationships. The advocate provides support groups as well as 1:1 meetings with teens to discuss options, safety and to decrease feelings of isolation.
Offender Intervention Program
The major initiative of Christine Ann's Offender Intervention Program is A.T.A.M. or Alternatives and Treatment for Abusive Men, a 44-week cognitive behavioral treatment program designed to specifically work with domestic violence offenders. A.T.A.M. holds batterers accountable for their violent and abusive choices, teaching them how to recognize how their abusive behavior affects their partners and children and to practice alternatives to abusive behaviors.
In addition to A.T.A.M., the program provides individual assessments of domestic violence perpetrators. The Offender Intervention Program also offers a companion program for female offenders called Choices and Consequences.
The agency also recently initiated the A.C.T. program, or Alternative Choices for Teens, targeting aggressive teen boys who show signs of abusive behavior.
Community Education and Prevention Program
Christine Ann's Community Education and Prevention Program is vital to the agency's mission to prevent domestic violence and abuse, and intervene and advocate on behalf of victims.
The program offers presentations to a variety of community groups, organizations, and businesses; it also targets students in grades K-12 within the schools addressing characteristics of abusive and healthy and non-violent relationships, as well as teaching children and teens healthy ways to handle conflict and anger.
Green Lake County Rural Outreach Program
Christine Ann operates a satellite office within the Green Lake County Department of Health and Human Services to address the needs of rural victims and their children who face unique barriers to leaving an abusive situation - barriers that include geographic isolation, limited access to transportation, and confidentiality.
Advocacy services include shelter options, adult support groups, 24-Hour Helpline support, children and teen support groups, individual options advocacy, safety planning, systems and legal advocacy, and community education presentations and trainings.
