Maybe it starts with a presentation for and conversation with a small committee of co-workers at an area store or boutique.
It then connects to one of their church groups dedicated to community wellness and betterment.
There, a high school coach decides "this would be great for my players to learn more about."
The knowledge and the conversations spread, connecting workplace to church, church to sports team, sports team to neighborhood association -- who knows how far it will go? Hopefully, it never ends.
Many of us know about the cycle of abuse. But we're calling this new initiative the "Cycle of Good." It's a new series of community conversations in the workplaces, churches, youth and service groups that are important parts of YOUR lives.
Domestic abuse and violence is not a "downer" of a discussion. Nor can we afford it to be a taboo subject. Understanding what the warning signs, or "red flags," look like and how to step up and help opens up an inspirational conversation and leads to action. It's about health, happiness, wellness and safety. And it's a community issue - it requires a community's help.
That's where you and your organizations come in.
In conjunction with Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services' 25th Anniversary year, we're turning to our Winnebago and Green Lake county communities with new focus. We want YOU to take us up on our challenge to get the Cycle of Good going and keep it rolling - to invite in our community educator to:
-- Explain the toll domestic violence has on not only individuals but also workplaces to entire communities and be better able to spot the signs of abuse and violence.
-- Provide the tools and better equip our audiences to ask the right, sensitive questions and support someone who is enduring abuse, someone who needs help.
-- Use our resources and information to refer friends, family or co-workers to Christine Ann and its collaborative partners to get that help.
The ultimate goal: End domestic abuse.
Here's the key to keeping the Cycle of Good alive: We won't leave one presentation without getting a commitment from our audience for another, a different, new opportunity to educate and empower. And, by the year's end, we hope to have established an ongoing, impressive string of conversations, a diverse thread connecting area workplaces, churches, services groups, even sports teams to Christine Ann's mission. This is the community connection necessary to face and defeat abuse.
We hope you'll join us, start the Cycle of Good and keep it going in this, Christine Ann's 25th year.
