Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services Receives Grants to Assist Domestic Violence Victims, Children and Teens

Menasha, WI - May 22, 2008 --- Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc. has been awarded three grants from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation. A Community Impact Grant of $8,000 will help support a part-time Crisis Advocate that serves as a front line person to "triage" the initial needs of victims seeking services as well as to assist with new and ongoing daily shelter activities. Two grants directed to the agency's Children and Teen Program was made possible through the Hiwela Youth Fund; a $1,500 award will enable older children and teens to participate in a Ropes Course and Equine-Assisted Leadership skills training. A $1,600 award will provide day camp experiences for children.

"The Crisis Advocate position enables the advocate staff to better focus on individual case management, particularly crisis intervention and providing a more efficient use of the advocates' time, resulting in better overall quality of serviced to domestic violence victims in the community," said Julie Fevola, executive director of Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services.

The overall goal of the Children and Teen Program is to enhance safety and quality of life for children and teens that have witnessed or experienced domestic violence. Programs for children include individual sessions, safety planning and support groups as well as supportive services for parents. The teen program provides support groups and 1:1 sessions with teens that live in abusive households or that are involved in abusive relationships to discuss options for safety and to lessen feelings of isolation.

"Through the camp experience and these enrichment activities, Christine Ann hopes to address some the issues that children and teens face as a result of being witness to or victims of domestic violence," added Fevola.

Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services' mission is to prevent domestic abuse and violence and to provide intervention and safety to all individuals affected by domestic violence. In addition to emergency shelter, the agency provides comprehensive programs and services in Winnebago and Green Lake Counties.
