Men Who Cook for Christine Ann Raises Critical Program Funding While Drawing Attention to Domestic Violence Issue in Community

The 8th Annual "Men Who Cook for Christine Ann", held on Saturday, June 21st at the UW-Oshkosh's Reeve Memorial Union raised over $80,000 for Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services. Proceeds from the event, which was attended by approximately 400 people will support the agency's programs and services for domestic violence victims and their children.

Program highlights include:

  • •Emergency Shelter and 24-Hour Helpline - Provided shelter to 65 women and children and 1,710 days of care to date in 2008.
  • Client Advocacy Services - Provided legal advocacy to 190 clients and safety planning for 199 clients to date in 2008.
  • Children and Teens - Met one on one with 31 children and 52 teens who experienced or witnessed domestic violence to date in 2008.
  • Community Education and Prevention - Reached 1,739 school children through prevention presentations and 153 individuals through community education presentations to date in 2008.
  • Offender Intervention - Provided assessments for 29 men and reached 67 men through group-structured intervention to date 2008.

In addition to the critical dollars raised by "Men Who Cook", the also event helped draw attention to the fact that domestic violence remains a serious issue in our communities. Further, and just as importantly, "Men Who Cook" helped call attention to the agency's efforts to more actively engage men in the work to end violence against women.

Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing domestic abuse and violence, and providing intervention and safety for each individual affected by domestic abuse and violence. It serves residents in Neenah, Menasha, Oshkosh and communities throughout Winnebago and Green Lake counties. Services for victims are provided free of charge.
