Menasha, WI - December 5, 2007 --- The weather outside may have been "frightful" for last weekend's 5th annual Race for the Light 5K Run/Walk to benefit Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services but it didn't stop participants from coming out to support the agency and joining in the holiday spirit.
While conditions of snow, sleet, wind and ice forced Race organizers to cancel the event about an hour before start time, the Oshkosh Boys and Girls Club was host to approximately 150 runners, walkers, and volunteers that stayed to enjoy great food and entertainment by the Oshkosh West High School Madrigal Singers, as well as a visit from St. Nick. "It was amazing to see all of the people at the event despite the weather conditions," said Julie Fevola, Executive Director. "Even though the race was cancelled, people were generously giving us their registration fee and making donations. We are grateful for the incredible community support. This event is critical for Christine Ann to continue to meet the needs of victims throughout our communities. Once again, community members stepped forward for women and children."
Race for the Light is Christine Ann's second largest fundraiser, providing a fun and healthy way to raise awareness and funds for a tremendous cause: To help end domestic violence in our communities. It is also a great way to kick-off the holiday season with family, friends and co-workers. The race course features the breathtaking Celebration of Lights in Oshkosh's Menominee Park.
The Christine Ann staff, board and event committee would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to:
