A new effort to get thousands of men in the Fox Valley region to stand up and take action in the campaign to end violence against women is getting closer and closer to its public launch.
Fox Valley Voices of Men aims to publicly launch in January at a community breakfast rallying the region's top male business leaders, public officials, educators, clergy and coaches to create an understanding of the common behaviors and thinking that can lead to violence against women. A key component of the event will be the array of action opportunities that will be available to participants.
The hope is that this will start a chain reaction to an even larger corps of men throughout the region to increase mentorship, awareness building and public education to create a culture of respect for women.
The purpose of this community campaign is threefold: 1) Build awareness among men and boys about behaviors and attitudes that can lead to abuse of women. 2) Teach men how to be good role models and mentors for other men and boys. 3) Engage men in action to end men's violence against women. Voices of Men's aim and effort are to nurture a generation of men and younger men who will honor and respect women and girls, reject violence and encourage others to spread the message onto their peers and children.
Now more than ever, it is important that we focus on ways for men to have a positive impact on violence against women.
